چکیده

Introduction In acute to early subacute middle cerebral arterial stroke, the mean diffusivity (MD) is more reduced in white matter (WM) than in gray matter (GM) [1]. Moreover, the temporal evolution of MD and fractional anisotropy (FA) is different for WM and GM with varying degree of WM damage at three months [2]. The apparent diffusion kurtosis (ADK) has previously been proposed for visualization of non-Gaussian diffusion [3]. Changes in kurtosis, determined in repeated diffusion weighted (DW) measurements using different diffusion times (TD), reflect altered micro-structural tissue properties in subacute stroke [4].

Spatiotemporal dynamics of diffusional kurtosis, mean diffusivity and perfusion changes in experimental stroke.

Diffusional kurtosis imaging (DKI), which measures the non-Gaussianity of water diffusion, has been demonstrated to be a sensitive biomarker in many neuropathologies. The goal of this study was to longitudinally examine the spatiotemporal dynamics of DKI in cerebral ischemia in an animal model of permanent and transient (45 min) middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) during the hyperacute, acu...

Higher-order statistics of 3D spin displacement probability distributions measured with MAP MRI

Synopsis We compute the higher-order statistics of the 3D spin displacement probability distributions measured with mean apparent propagator (MAP) MRI and quantify microstructural tissue parameters such as the mean kurtosis (MK), axial kurtosis (K ), radial kurtosis (K ) and kurtosis fractional anisotropy (FA ). This extension of the family of MAP tissue parameters provides a direct link betwee...

Early Prediction of Delayed Ischemia and Functional Outcome in Acute Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: Role of Diffusion Tensor Imaging.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) parameters are markers of cerebral lesion in some diseases. In patients with acute subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), we investigated whether DTI parameters measured at <72 hours might be associated with delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) and with poor functional outcome at 3 months (modified Rankin Scale score ≥3). METHODS DTI was performed in a...

In vivo Imaging of Kurtosis Tensor Eigenvalues in the Brain at 3 T

Background Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), a gaussian anisotropic diffusion model, provides mean diffusivity (MD) and fractional anisotropy (FA) metrics that describe diffusion in brain tissue (white and gray matter). However, the widely recognized non-gaussian diffusion behavior in tissue has motivated higher order schemes (q-ball, HARDI, DSI) to accurately describe the tissue structure. In ge...

Diffusion kurtosis as an in vivo imaging marker for reactive astrogliosis in traumatic brain injury

Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging (DKI) provides quantifiable information on the non-Gaussian behavior of water diffusion in biological tissue. Changes in water diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) parameters and DKI parameters in several white and gray matter regions were investigated in a mild controlled cortical impact (CCI) injury rat model at both the acute (2 h) and the sub-acute (7 days) stages follo...
